Neither Netflix nor the creators have given any clue on whether the popular character from the books and video games will appear on the show, but fans speculation suggests that Falka will be seen in several scenes this season. As per the rumors, the creators are currently huddled up behind the doors to discuss the ways they can approach the character Falka and their plan is to show her in a different light than what we have already seen in books and video games.
In any case, several reports from reliable sources have
confirmed to us that the decision to include Falka in the second season of The
Witcher has already been made. In fact, even the actress who will play the
character has also been decided.
Discreet whispers and alluding eyes have turned our heads towards
an actress from Scotland, Scarlett Maltman, who is known to have played roles
in “River City” and very recently in “The Great.”
For now, the plan is to show Falka only through a series of
mysterious visions of Ciri (played by Freya Allan). In the visions, we will see
Falka in flashback scenes as the character had existed long before the events
of the Netflix show. It is imperative to understand that there is a mum silence
from the creator’s and Netflix’s side regarding Falka and Scarlett Maltman. Furthermore,
the actress has also not been included in the show’s IMDB credit page. However,
there are voices within the fan and media fraternity that are sounding
extremely confident that the actress has already been signed and is being
strictly kept under wraps.
Those who haven’t read Andrzej Sapkowski’s books wouldn’t know
much about Falka because the character’s history is unexplored in video games.
There was a fanbase of the video games that wanted some character depth to
Falka, and the word on the street is that the creator of the Netflix show,
Lauren Schmidt, had noticed the popularity of the character and decided to give
a closer look at it.
If you are lucky enough to read some of Sapkowski’s books, you
would surely know that she is a central figure in the Witcher lore and has a
history that is worthy of a proper visual adaptation.
But, who is Falka?
She is a quarter-elf and was the daughter of King Vridank, being
born out of Beatrix of Kovir’s womb. Having said that, now you can imagine that
she had a Redania dynasty lineage (an ancient royal line of descent). She had
obtained the title Princess of Redania, but she was a very greedy individual
who was always looking for more power, status, and authority. Twenty-five years
later, she formed a revolt against King Vridank, demanding her right to sit on
the throne after him as she considered herself to be the rightful heir because
she was the eldest daughter in the family. When she was denied, her greed took
the better of her and formed a satanic vice, which made her assassinate her
entire family, which included King Vridank, his wife, and their two sons.
The remorseless and merciless daughter of King Vridank was then
given the title Bloody Falka.
A blog written by urkkambor at White Flame has suggested that Falka
will either appear in flashback stories or, more interestingly, through Ciri’s
visions. The blog also reported that there is a plan to make Ciri use the name
“Falka” in the later episodes. The reason, as of now, is a mystery, and the
creators will have to elucidate on that.
The fans have no complaints regarding the signing of Scarlett
Maltman and are already enthusiastic about Falka’s possible role in the overall
structure of the story. The report that the character will appear in Ciri’s
vision has made them excited.
The last announcement creators have made about the show was the
casting news of Basil Eidenbenz, who recently replaced Thue Rasmussen in the
role of Eskel- an important character in Season 2 who is likely to help Geralt
of Rivia in training Freya Allan’s Ciri. In the books and video games, Eskel is
also a Witcher who has trained with the Geralt at Kaer Morhen and is his long
time friend.
