WhatsApp is a top-rated platform holding more than 1 million
users. New features are added more often to make its use interesting and easy.
WhatsApp enhances your texting experience and there are a lot of
features or tricks that you may be unaware of. These features make the
application handy and comfortable.
Therefore, below mentioned are the tips and tricks you must know
if you’re active in using WhatsApp.
- Hide WhatsApp Media from the Gallery
A lot of content is forwarded on your WhatsApp which gets
auto-saved to your gallery. Sometimes, it can create a mess for you. WhatsApp
lets you hide media that doesn’t get auto-saved in your gallery. All you need
to do is: Open the group you want to restrict saving media from, tap on the
group name, and set the ‘Media Visibility’ option to No.
Doing this will not delete your existing media, but it’ll
restrict your new media from saving to the gallery.
- Use Fingerprint Lock to Secure WhatsApp
If you don’t want anybody to intrude on your privacy, you may
set a Fingerprint lock for security. The steps to set up a lock are:
- Go to settings from the WhatsApp application.
- Click on the ‘Account’ section and then ‘Privacy.’
- Scroll down and tap ‘Fingerprint Lock.’
You may disable it anytime you want.
- Restrict Specific Contacts from Viewing your Story
Sometimes you want to add stories to your status but are not
fond of replying to some annoying friends or family regarding the same.
WhatsApp feature allows you to restrict these contacts from viewing your story.
To do the same:
- Go to settings and tap on the ‘Account’ section.
- Click on ‘Privacy.’
- Click the ‘Status’ tab and select the contacts you want to restrict from watching your story from the option ‘My Contacts Except.’
- Tap on ‘Done,’ once you’ve selected the contacts.
- Turn the ‘Read Receipts’ off
You may turn off your ‘Read Receipts’ if you want to read a
message without the other one knowing about it. On the same note, you won’t be
able to see if others have read your message or not.
For changing these settings:
- Go to settings and then ‘Account’ in your WhatsApp.
- In the privacy tab, uncheck the ‘Read Receipts’ checkbox.
- Delete Texts after Sending
WhatsApp enables you to delete messages, once you’ve sent them.
This feature allows you to delete sent messages up to 60 minutes and you can do
this by tapping and holding on the message and selecting ‘Delete for Everyone.’
- Get track of Deleted Messages
If somebody sends you a message and later deletes it without you
having read it, it creates a lot of curiosity which you can avoid now and read
the deleted texts. For this feature to use, install the ‘Notification Log’ app,
and grant permission to read all the notifications. This app will keep a track
of deleted messages from the other side.
- Answer WhatsApp Messages Automatically
This feature is effective for WhatsApp business accounts. A
third-party application like ‘Auto-Reply for WhatsApp’ can help you with the
same.
- Share Real-Time Location
Sharing your location with your friends and family has become
really easy with this WhatsApp feature. You can share your location for up to
15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours. To enable this, tap on the ‘Attachment’ icon, go
to the ‘Location’ and click ‘Share Live Location.’
- Set-up different Sounds for different Notifications
Taking out your phone again and again from your pocket can seem
quite irritating sometimes when you particularly want to check messages from a
person or two instead of all other notifications.
You can assign a different sound for particular people so you
can easily figure out which messages to check without taking out your phone.
This is possible with the ‘Android Oreo Support.’ You can assign
different sounds and manage settings from here.
- Pin Important Conversations
If you receive a lot of messages on WhatsApp and fear of missing
a message from some particular contacts, you can pin those conversations on the
top in the chat section. All you need to do is, long-press the conversation and
click on the ‘Pin’ icon on the top.
- Archive a WhatsApp Chat
You can easily hide a WhatsApp chat by putting them to Archive.
For hiding a chat, press and hold on the conversation for a few seconds and tap
on the ‘Archive’ icon from the top of the screen.
- Change Font of your WhatsApp Chat
You can change the font of your chats to make it seem more
interesting. To do the same:
- Open the conversation.
- Press and hold the message you want to change the font for, before sending it.
- A list of options will appear from where you can choose your font as you like.
- Email your Chat
This WhatsApp feature enables you to email your conversation
instead of copy-pasting it as a message. Follow the steps to do the same:
- Go to settings and then ‘Chat History.’
- Click on the ‘Email Chat’ option.
- Choose the conversation you want to email, fill the email address, and send.
- Set Privacy
You can choose to set different contacts to view different
privacy options such as Profile Picture, Status, etc.
You can change these settings from the ‘Privacy’ section of the
WhatsApp settings.
- Backup on Drive
To be on the safer side, you can backup your data on Google
Drive. This creates a backup even if you uninstall the application.
For backing up your data, follow the steps below:
- Go to settings.
- Open ‘Chat Backup’ tab from the ‘Chat’ section.
- Select how often you want your data to backup to Google Drive, and you’re done.
