He even wants to direct the project.
First of all, we should make things clear that Netflix now holds
no legal right over those characters. The time bondage which obligated Marvel
Studios not to use “The Defenders” characters and Jon Bernthal’s iteration of
Punisher is now up. Punisher is free to be used by Marvel Cinematic Universe
along with others.
Now, the star of the 2004 Punisher film has recently made a
statement that he would love to bring Jon Bernthal’s version on screen again,
and he would be over the moon if Marvel selects to helm the Punisher project
starring Jon Bernthal in the starring role of Frank Castle.
For now, Kevin Feige and the company have not made their
thoughts clear regarding the Netflix version of the character, and despite
certain rumors that allude to the fact that Charlie Cox is all set to
re-portray his character of Matt Murdock, we cannot get ahead of ourselves.
Meanwhile, Thomas Jane has offered to revive Punisher. Jane had
portrayed the character in a rather disappointing 2004 film. However, he has
some interesting ideas regarding the character.
He has made it clear that he wants only Jon Bernthal in the
project and nobody else. And he would make the project solely centered on Frank
Castle.
You should not underestimate Jane based on his performance in
the 2004 film. He has at least three decades of motion acting experience apart
from steering the wheel for some projects as well. One of his premier
directorial ventures is the 2009 film “Dark Country.” Just recently, he has
ably steered the wheel for an episode of “Expanse.”
He was asked in an interview whether he would be interested in
acting in a Punisher project. Jane had a professional answer to that.
He conceded that it is difficult for a film to really understand
the dynamics of what the character “The Punisher” really is. He also admitted
that he extremely adored what Jon Bernthal, Ben Barnes, and Amber Rose Revah
had achieved with the Netflix series. He reiterated what has been said by fans
over the years, Jon Bernthal nailed the role of Punisher, and he added that he
would love to steer the wheel for a Punisher project starring him because he
has done a tremendous job in the Netflix series.
Jon Bernthal really is a tremendous actor, and he has proved it
time and time again. His role of “Shane Walsh” in the fan-favorite “Walking
Dead” series is also well-known.
The Punisher was canceled in February of 2019 after a series of
cancellations of other projects such as Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones,
and Iron Fist.
Though Iron Fist and Luke Cage have a separate fanbase, what
fans terribly miss are the series, which had a nail-biting tension, style, and
action accentuated by extraordinary suspense. Yes, I am talking about
Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher.
Eminem had also tweeted and expressed his disappointment after
the cancellation of The Punisher. However, more than that, the cancellation of
Daredevil had disappointed most of the fans, which even led to the initiation
of a movement called the “Save Daredevil” campaign, which has earned massive
support over the years.
Now, when all the legal obligations are non-existent, fans
desperately want Jon Bernthal and the company to make an appearance on Disney+
(Marvel’s new home). It is unclear whether Marvel is paying attention to the
campaign, but some reports have suggested that they are indeed considering the
possibility of including Charlie Cox in Spider-Man 3.
