Popular Fall Anime List of 2020 Has Some Unexpected Names

 The recent fall season anime popularity polls by mobile phone giant NTT Docomo has been announced. Customers who use dAnime Store service take part in polls twice every season. In the first poll, the users have to vote for the show they are excited about, and then right in the middle of the season, the second poll is held, which asks the users to vote for their favorite anime. The results of the recent polls were published by Crunchyroll and have been surprising, to say the least.

The polls were very close, and Jujutsu Kaisen became the most liked anime just by a few hundred votes. The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc came in second place. Jujutsu Kaisen was the fifth most anticipated anime of the season, so the show’s rise is not abrupt, and it has been predicted for a long time now. The show recounts the story of a high school student Yuji Itadori who consumed cursed fingers. He was then taken to Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College, where he was condemned to death by a hidden magical community. However, before he was executed, he was told to hunt down the other fingers. Even before the show was released, the manga was quite popular.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai turned out to be the most disappointing. The series was ranked 10th in the anticipation polls, but when the recent mid-season poll results came out, it had dropped down to the 20th position. Although it has fluid animation, which has been one of its strengths, it failed to compete with other innovative and much more captivating shows. 



It would be a crime to not discuss Sleepy Princess In The Demon Castle, which jumped from 15th position in the anticipation poll to 7th place in the recent one, which truly makes it the sleeper hit of the season. The series focuses on Princess Syalis, who is caught by the Demon King and is in captivity in his castle. The show is hilarious and charming. It parodies several classic fantasy tropes, and even though the concept might not be too intriguing, the show has a huge fan following. The present-day healthcare crisis makes viewers resonate with the protagonist, who is stuck inside with nowhere else to go. The humorous show is something that the world needs right now, and it might also explain its popularity despite having a somewhat dull concept. 

Another show that has taken everyone by surprise is the Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina, which was ranked 9th most anticipated anime. In the recent polls, the show turned out to be the third most popular. It recounts the story of Elaina a witch, who likes to travel around the world. Its realistic representation of the darker aspect of its world has garnered a lot of praise and has been one of the big reasons that have made it so popular. 

Talentless Nana has been another sleeper hit this season, which has jumped from the 23rd position in the anticipation list to the 10th position in recent popularity polls. It is not surprising since the show has been one of the most captivating of this season and has the potential of keeping its viewers on the edge of their seats. The show has drawn comparisons to massive hits like My Hero Academia and Death Note, which is impressive since Talentless Nana is relatively new.

The latest NTT Docomo popularity polls have been quite intriguing. It helps fans get an idea of the shows they might want to avoid or those that are much better than anticipated. Overall, the popularity polls have revealed some unexpected trends. Moreover, the fact that fantasy has been leading in the recent polls reveals the viewers’ preference.
