The recent virus outbreak has forced the entire world to sit at home and find ways to deal with all this extra time at their hand. And this social distancing norm also took its major hit on the entertainment industry. All the ongoing movie shoots had to be put on halt, and the regular sitcoms cannot air any new episodes anymore, and the movie halls are empty because neither have any new movies released and nor are people allowed to visit any public places. But in all the chaos and confusion, the gaming industry has seen and grabbed on to a huge opportunity here.
Video gaming industry started with our classics like Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Centipede, The Legend of Zelda, Asteroids. As soon as they realized that it was a hit in multiple age groups, there was no stopping. We have travelled leaps and bounds in terms of technology, graphics and ideas in gaming. And it was one of the few segments of the entertainment industry that jumped at the opportunity of tapping into a suddenly created market. The industry knew that people would need ways to entertain them, and gaming was a perfect way to do that because it is easy to learn and suits every gender and every age group.  73% of the USA population is involved in gaming on some of the platforms. It is because of heightened accessibility.

Another advantage to the game developers is that since it is all animated, it does not need outdoor shooting or grouping of a large number of people. It is very easy and accessible for coders and graphic designers and any other technical personnel involved in a team to sit at their homes and get their work done. Everything can be created, shared, compiled and launched remotely. Marketing is also relatively easy as people were already using more social media because of boredom and getting social media influencers to advertise the new game. A well-known game developing company needs even less of it. The minute they launch a new game, some of the other famous bloggers tend to cover the launch, with a detailed review of the game, its graphics, controls, user interface, level of interaction etc.
For the people who want to lay hands on the new games, they don’t even have to leave their homes. Almost all the games are accessible via PCs and gaming consoles. So the people can buy the game, and it is directly delivered to their devices without any hassle.
What was once seen as a reason for excluding people from the world and making them reclusive is not being widely recommended by huge organizations because this pandemic made them realize how important it is for people to distract their minds. Videogames can help you do so.  The reason was that it helps people to deal with the depression and anxiety that may be caused due to rising uncertainty in everyone’s mind and forced solitude. Gaming companies have become smarter in judging the market and user requirements. Many games have an interactive interface that changes continually following the decisions and choices of the player. It makes them feel like they are in charge and not the other way round.
